An Overview of the Surgical Process

A breast mastopexy, also known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure designed to lift, reshape, and tighten the breasts. This procedure can improve the appearance of sagging or drooping breasts, making them look firmer and more youthful.

Reasons for Mastopexy

A breast lift is performed to correct breast ptosis or sagging of the breasts. This is a common problem for many women as they age. People opt for breast lift surgery for various reasons, including:

Benefits of Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

A breast lift not only enhances physical appearance but also improves self-esteem and comfort. Here’s how the procedure benefits you:

Restored Breast Position

Sagging breasts are lifted to a higher, more youthful position, enhancing overall body proportions.

Improved Breast Shape & Firmness

Mastopexy reshapes the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissues, resulting in a firmer look and feel.

Enhanced Nipple Placement & Symmetry

The procedure repositions the nipples and areolas for a more natural, aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Long-Lasting, Natural-Looking Results

With proper care, breast lift results can last for many years, maintaining a natural look without the need for implants.

Our Pre-Operative Consultation

The first step in the mastopexy process is a thorough pre-operative consultation. During this consultation, Dr. Johnson will discuss your goals, preferences, and any concerns you may have.  We will review your medical history, perform a physical examination, and discuss the various options for mastopexy that are available to create a custom plan to meet your goals and expectations.

Procedure

A mastopexy, or breast lift, corrects sagging breasts by removing skin and reshaping the underlying breast tissue.  A variety of incision patterns may be used depending on the severity of the breast ptosis to remove the skin.  The nipple and areola are left attached to the underlying breast tissue and are elevated to a newer and higher position.

Peri-Areolar Lift (Donut or Crescent Lift)

This technique involves a circular incision around the areola to remove a small amount of skin. Best for minimal lifting, but excessive correction may lead to poor aesthetic results like skin pleating or widened scars.

Vertical Lift (Lollipop Lift)

This method includes an incision around the areola with a vertical line down to the breast crease. It’s ideal for mild to moderate sagging, though breasts may initially appear high and flat before settling into their final shape.

Wise Pattern Lift (Anchor Lift or Inverted-T Lift)

This lift uses incisions around the areola, down the breast, and along the crease to remove excess skin, making it suitable for moderate to severe sagging. While it requires more incisions, they typically fade well over time.

Internal Bra

The internal bra is a dissolvable mesh placed beneath the skin to support the lower breast. It acts as a scaffold to maintain a higher position and reduce future sagging. This option is especially beneficial for patients with weak tissue, significant skin laxity, large breasts, or revision cases.

Combination with Other Procedures

A breast lift corrects sagging but doesn't significantly change breast volume or fullness. It can be combined with breast augmentation, either through implants or fat transfer, to enhance volume. For patients seeking more upper breast fullness, combining the lift with implants or fat grafting is the best option.

Post-Operative Care and Recovery

Following surgery, patients will be monitored in the recovery area and are allowed to go home the same day. Detailed post-operative care instructions will be provided. Discomfort will frequently subside over the next few days after surgery. Most patients are back to their normal daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks, but it is important to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks to allow for full healing.

Results

It is common for the breast to appear slightly flat along the lower pole and extra pushed up in the immediate post-op period. The breasts will slowly settle into their final position, with final results present within 3 months.

Pricing

Pricing will vary depending on the exact surgical approach for your procedure. However, the typical price range is between $8000-$10000.
